A nationwide test planned for the Emergency Mobile Alert rollout is scheduled for Sunday, 26 November 2017 between 6 and 7pm.

Our Pacific communities are being reminded that they will start receiving emergency alerts to their mobile phones. The text will warn them that their life, property or health is in serious danger and should appear automatically on a phone’s screen with a unique and penetrating warning sound.

As the emergency alert text service is about keeping everyone safe, nobody will be able to opt-out of receiving Emergency Mobile Alerts.

Not all phones are currently capable of receiving the alerts, and we strongly urge our Pacific communities to look after others and that if they receive an alert, to tell their immediate family, relatives, and all their loved ones, especially the elderly who often don’t have access to a mobile phone.

You can check whether your phone can receive the alerts and find out more here
