Manako Nemaia | Prime Ministers Pacific Youth Award winner for the BNZ award shares her first blog with us - have a read below! "Fakaalofa lahi atu,

Still alive and kicking! It has been almost 3 months now since I first started at BNZ and 6 months since this opportunity had been given to me. Here is how it has panned out so far.

When I first started I came in strong and bold ready to take on the big blue bank – my induction went well as I realised I was the only PI to be standing amongst my peers but I stood proud. First official day started and it all hit me – I slowly began to realise how much I did not know and began to “cast my eyes round about.” An office that works at a pretty fast pace, all this talk about loans, interests rates and a lot of things that were just a little bit foreign to me – but it’s ok though! Overtime I have found my rhythm and am doing a lot better than the Week 1 Manako.
I have been a little more reserved than usual down here in my corner of the world, Highbrook living, observing how this corporate world works. The environment is definitely different from what I am used to but I have learnt to adapt and embrace the experience. Nerves, a sigh of relief, lightbulb and durr moments have all been a part of my learning process taking each day as it comes. I have met some awesome people who have shared with me the ins and outs of working in the bank industry and have been guiding me along the way. There have been so many learning curves, not just about overdrafts, term loans and customer ratings but also about myself – who I am becoming, who I want to become and where to next. The people here at BNZ have a great work ethic which I admire – I can honestly say I have learnt a lot from them"
